Long & Short Call Procedures

Long Call Procedure
Effective date:  May 1, 1997

Short Call Procedure
Effective date:  May 1, 1997

Sign in hours are: 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

Each applicant must prove unemployment with a severance slip from his last employer; at the time of registration, or a letter from home local stating you are unemployed.

Applicants must resign the out of work list every 2 months on anniversary date, in person, to remain on the out of work list.

We will no longer be calling individuals from the out of workbook for long calls. If you are on the out-of-work list, and interested in working in the Local, it is your responsibility to call the office recorder at 815-744-0176 and 815-744-0177, dial 176 to hear the recording, after 5:00 pm each day, or go to our website at ibewlocal176.org for a list of jobs.

If interested in calls from the previous nights recording, applicants must call the referral line the following morning: Book I -between the hours of 7:30 am to 8:30 am:  Book II - between the hours of 10:00 am to 11:00 am.  Applicants will be referred for employment in the order they are registered on the out of work list beginning at 11:00 am. The referral agent will only notify the individuals that will receive the call. You must be available for this call.

815-744-0176 and 815-744-0177, dial 3 and it will ring directly to the referral agents desk from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, Monday through Friday. These numbers will be used for referrals and referral information ONLY. If you get a voice mail that means the lines are busy, try again.

Individuals who are actively seeking employment will be allowed unlimited turn downs, although if three long calls are accepted by applicants after you on the out of work list, when you have reached the number 50 or below, you will no longer be eligible for sub pay.

If a person accepts a call for a job, AND THEN DECIDES TO TURN THE JOB DOWN, OR QUITS, OR GETS TERMINATED FOR A JUSTIFIABLE CAUSE, that person will have to come to the office and resign at the bottom of BOTH THE LONG & SHORT CALL OUT OF WORK LIST.

Anyone with the number of 50 or less will be allowed to stay on the list for 3 months without accepting a call, at which time they will be removed from the out of work list. In order to be placed back on the book, that person will have to come to the office and resign at the bottom of the list. At least (3) three calls will be offered to you before you are removed from the books for your (3) three-month stay.

If on a long call, thru no fault of your own, you work 14 calendar days or less, you may keep your place on the long call book, but you must resign the bottom of the short call book, if you want a short call.

A separate short call book shall be used for temporary or emergency calls of 14 days or less. Upon completion of a short call, the applicant must resign at the bottom of the short call book. A short call, three days or less through no fault of your own, will allow you to take one more short call before resigning the bottom of the book. We will no longer be calling individuals from the short call book for short calls. If you are on the short call book, and interested in working in the Local on a short call, it is your responsibility to call the office recorder at 815-744-0176 and 815-744-0177, dial 176, after 5:00 pm each day.

If interested in calls from the previous nights recording, applicants must call the referral line the following morning: Book I - between the hours of 7:30 am to 8:30 am:  Book II - between the hours of 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The machine is shut off from 7:30 am to 8:30 am for Book 1 referrals. Applicants will be referred for employment in the order they are registered on the short call book beginning at 11:00 am. The referral agent will only notify the individuals that will receive the call. You must be available for this call.

815-744-0176 and 815-744-0177, dial 3, will ring directly to the referral agents desk from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Monday through Friday. IF YOU GET A VOICE MAIL, THE REFERRAL LINE IS BUSY, TRY AGAIN. These numbers will be used for referrals and referral information ONLY.

If a person accepts a short call for a job, AND THEN DECIDES TO TURN THE JOB DOWN, OR QUITS, OR GETS TERMINATED FOR JUSTIFIABLE CAUSE, that person will have to come to the office and resign at the bottom of BOTH THE SHORT & LONG CALL BOOKS.

You will have unlimited turn downs for short calls, but anyone with the number of 10 or less on the short call book will be allowed to stay on the list for 30 days without accepting a short call, at which time they will be removed from the short call work list. In order to be placed back on the book, that person will have to come to the office and resign at the bottom of the list.

While on a short call, you may not accept any long calls. NONE, until a severance is received by the union hall. REMEMBER, sign in hours are 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, excluding holiday.
